Moving to a New State? License and Registration Deadlines (2026)
After you move, the majority of states give you 30 to 60 days to get a new driver's license and register your car, but some, like California and Florida, give only 10 to 20 days for part of the process. Deadlines generally start when you become a resident, not when the moving truck arrives.
